Welcome to Reflexology By Sharine!

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a holistic therapy that involves the application of pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears. The theory behind reflexology is that each of these points, also known as reflexes, corresponds to a specific part of the body, including organs, glands, and muscles.

By applying pressure to these reflexes, reflexologists aim to stimulate the corresponding parts of the body and promote healing and relaxation. Reflexology is believed to help balance the body’s energy, improve circulation, and reduce tension and stress.

Reflexology is a non-invasive, gentle therapy that can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including headaches, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, and sleep disorders. It can also be used to promote overall health and well-being.

Reflexology sessions typically last between 30 minutes to an hour, and the number of sessions required will depend on the individual’s needs and goals. It is important to note that reflexology is not a substitute for medical treatment but can be used as a complementary therapy to support overall health and well-being.

At What Age Should You Do Reflexology?

Reflexology can be beneficial for individuals of all ages, from infants to the elderly. Here are some ways in which different age groups may benefit from reflexology: Infants and young children: Reflexology can help soothe babies who are experiencing colic or constipation. It may also help improve sleep patterns, and reduce stress and anxiety in both infants and young children. Adolescents: Reflexology may help alleviate stress and anxiety that is commonly experienced by teenagers. It may also be beneficial for addressing menstrual irregularities in adolescent girls. Adults: Reflexology may help reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality, and alleviate symptoms of chronic pain, such as headaches and back pain. Elderly: Reflexology may help improve circulation, reduce joint pain and stiffness, and improve balance in older adults. It may also be beneficial for addressing age-related conditions, such as arthritis and dementia. Overall, reflexology works by stimulating specific points on the feet or hands that correspond to different parts of the body. This stimulation may help improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation, which can lead to a wide range of benefits for people of all ages.

When Should You Not Do Reflexology?

While reflexology is generally considered safe, there are certain situations in which it should be avoided. Here are some examples: Recent foot or hand injuries: If you have recently injured your foot or hand, it's best to avoid reflexology until the injury has fully healed. Certain medical conditions: Reflexology should be avoided if you have certain medical conditions, such as deep vein thrombosis, thrombophlebitis, or a foot ulcer. Pregnancy: While reflexology can be beneficial during pregnancy, certain reflexology points should be avoided as they may stimulate contractions. Acute infectious disease: If you have an acute infectious disease, such as the flu, it's best to avoid reflexology until you have fully recovered. Open wounds or skin infections: If you have an open wound or skin infection on your feet or hands, it's best to avoid reflexology until the area has fully healed.
It's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before trying reflexology, especially if you have any underlying health conditions or concerns. A qualified reflexologist will also be able to advise you on whether or not reflexology is suitable for you.
